Hair and Skin

Health is more than just eating right and exercising; one crucial element in health is looking healthy. Yes, exercise and eating well can improve one’s outward appearance, but there are also further measures one can take to better their healthy appearance.  These measures include healthy skin and hair; today I will be sharing some tips for healthy hair and skin.
Honey, eggs, and lemon juice are great natural ways to give hair a shiny glow, while strengthening strands, and thickening hair. Eggs are put into many pet foods in order to improve their coats; eggs can also do the same thing for human hair. Eggs soften and add shine to hair. Lemon juice, when rubbed on the scalp, helps improve circulation and therefore thickens hair. Honey helps strengthen and soften hair; putting honey in someone’s hair may sound disastrous ,however,  when honey is put into boiling water it becomes less sticky and can easily be applied and removed from hair.

Strawberries, honey, oatmeal, avocado, cucumber, and peaches are all very common ingredients found in many face masks. The juice found in strawberries has been accredited with healing acne. Avocado and peaches are known for moistening skin while honey and oatmeal help even skin tone for a purer complexion. There are many ways to purify skin; the natural ways to purify skin, however, are the best.

I did not give specific recipes for skin masks or hair washes but I did mention some ingredients to look for when searching for a recipe. Recipes can easily be found on Google and in various magazines. Good luck bloggers.

BFACC

Here in Belle Fourche we are blessed to have the Belle Fourche Area Community Center , or BFACC in our hometown. At BFACC members or visitors can go for swim, jog on the indoor track, watch a play, play racquetball, or partake in various activities in their very spacious gym all for a very considerable price.
Exercise is a very important aspect in a person’s life, so having such a convenient resource available to us is very remarkable. BFACC provides a safe haven for physical activity. In the winter months if someone really wants to go for a run but it is icy outside the rec center provides a heated shelter to which one can turn.

BFACC is affordable and contains excellent exercise equipment that is easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone trying to get in better shape in our community.

Switch It

Hello bloggers! This week I will be listing some healthy substitution options that will help you live a healthy life.

1.) Instead of using creamy dressings, such as ranch, you could either use vinaigrette or put cottage cheese and just a little bit of the creamy dressing of your choice. That way you still have the taste of your favorite dressing but you also have less fat and more protein on your salad.
2.) Use greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Greek yogurt virtually tastes the same and has the same texture.
3.) Use spinach instead of ice burg lettuce. Ice burg lettuce is 90% water so it is a great source for water but nor nutrition. Spinach contains fiber, protein and many essential vitamins for your diet. Spinach can also be used to replace noodles in lasagna.
4.) Use fresh tomatoes instead of processed tomatoes found in canned goods and ketch-up. Fresh tomatoes not only contain vitamin-C, A, and B but they also contain lycopene. Lycopene helps protect against cancer, builds stronger bones, and prevents wrinkly skin.
5.) Eat fruit instead of dessert. As the days go by I find that fruit is a much more of a satifying dessert then cake and it contains less sugar and fat. Some people do prefer cake over fruit and that is fine because you can also substitute applesuace for butter in the recipe.
There are many more possible substitutions to help you live a healthier life but the biggest thing is to just know what your body needs and make the substitutions necessary to meet those needs. Your body needs fresh raw vegetables, protein, and hydration. Your body doesn’t need fatty foods or lots of sugar. Feel free to comment and maybe even mention some of the substitutions you use in your diet.
Have a great week and good luck substituting!

Tricks to the Trade

Health is a constant war. Our days are full of little battles made of decisions between the healthy choice and the unhealthy choice, it seems sometimes that we have to be constant alert pertaining to the status of our health. G.K. Chesterton said, "The trouble with always trying to preserve the health of the body is that it is so difficult to do without destroying the health of the mind." Yes, this quote is very true. It is so hard to live a healthy life without obsessing over "perfect health".

However, there is hope. In this blog I will give you three tips to make healthy living easier without destroying a healthy mind. These tips are nothing new but reminders are always nice.

1) Substituion
There is always a healthy alternative to unhealthy deciscions. For example our local Green Bean is pretty much famous in our community for there boarder line perfection Big Trains, but did you know if you freeze Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk for approximatly 45 minutes it tastes almost identical to a Cookies and Cream Big Train. The difference being, the almond milk is much better for you.

2) Drink Water
Drinking water is not only necissary for life itself but is very useful when trying to live a healthier life. Water decreases appitite for one, if you drink water constantly your stomach always has something in it so it takes less food in order to make you full.

3) Make a Routine
Sometimes the healthiest choices I make all day are the choices I'm so used to making it has become second nature. For example, I only drink water. Water has become my only source of hydration for so long it feels like I'm eating dessert if I drink hot chocolate or anything of that sort and I treat it as such.

So those are the tips. I will hopefully ellaberate on some of the tips later on in my blog. I will definatly continue to give you more substitution options next week but as for this week, I hope the tips are useful to you no matter how many times you have heard them before and I hope you enjoyed this weeks blog. :)

Walking Your Life Away

Ok bloggers here it is the topic for this week is, walking. Walking is something we have been doing since approximately the first year of our lives. Walking is apart of our lives and now studies are showing that walking can determine the length of our lives.

Yes, everyone knows walking is good for us. Walking helps us burn calories, exercise our muscles, and   get to where we need to go but research from the University of Pittsburgh now shows us that walking faster can increase the longevity of our lives.

Longevity is the length of one's life span. So it almost seems crazy to assume that putting a little pep in your step can add a few years to your life but the University of Pittsburgh seems to disagree.

For their study data was taken from nine large studies. Sex, age, medical history, and survival rate are all the statistics taken from every participant. Overall, statistics were taken from a total of over thirty four thousand senior citizens.

The typical relaxed walking speed time was taken from every participant periodically for two decades. The researchers found that the senior citizens who walked 2.25 mph or faster lived longer then those with similar age and sex who walked slower.

So there it is folks, pick up the pace in the hallways, on your way to work, or wherever your life may take you and you may just live a longer life.
